Ever feel like you’re floating from one job, one career to the next? No real sense of direction or purpose? Take it from someone who has done just that. The ridiculous amount of jobs I had in my twenties:
Fitness Instructor, undercover fitness researcher, waitress, event planner for the olympics, real estate project manager, tennis and ski instructor, communications coordinator, key lead at lululemon, nutritionist, life coach etc.…All while floating from one degree to the next, 3 in total and countless certifications.
All the time spent aimlessly wandering from job to job, yet I knew exactly what I wanted: to work for myself. I just didn’t know how or when.
I learned from a young age I don’t do well with authority, a few trips to the principal's office for speaking up, a flaw or a positive depending how you see it. If I don’t agree with what is being asked of me, if it doesn’t align with what I value, if I see it as a complete waste of time, I have trouble turning off my thoughts and doing it (my dad warns us kids we're prone to stubbornness from the Irish in us). BUT when I do see and feel something that is of meaning, will help someone, if I will grow from it or others will, if there is a purpose to it, I will put everything I have into it.
This self awareness made me realize I am meant to be a creator. Some people need direction, others thrive without it. Comes up a lot in coaching sessions, the never ending quest for someone wanting to find their purpose, how do you go about doing it? How did I know I should start a business? The answer: self awareness. Diving deep into your strengths and weaknesses will allow you to discover what you will thrive at naturally. And I believe when we tap into what comes easiest to us, which usually happens to be what we enjoy most, there lies the answer.
I get the struggle and hesitation to just go for it, if you do get a hunch or intuitive nudge, you worry about money, maybe you’ve got a decent, comfortable set up in the job you are at. Maybe this new found discovery of what you want to do next requires more schooling, an investment in coaching or mentorship, maybe you think to hell with it I’m too old for things to change..
What if its not too late, what if there is never a right time, what if you don’t have to be 100% confident before you take action..
What if instead the answer lies in taking action today, taking a risk, changing things up, trying things on, until one day it just fits. You find yourself enjoying what you’re doing, though hard at times, you know its worth it. And this isn’t to say that when you find that one thing, it will not change and evolve from there. This past year alone my business focused on nutrition and shifted into life and business coaching because I use that exact method. As I evolve, as my interests and passions change, I keep moving to find what fits and what feels right.
I am here to help guide you through the process, to gently nudge you or kick your ass into action because there lies your passion and your purpose. As humans we default into comfort, though every ounce of us could be craving change. Most people will choose a familiar misery over foreign happiness or fulfillment.
I’m here to push you out of that comfy nest you’ve built and get you working towards something that excites you. Instead of floating aimlessly, you’ll be taking action and have complete confidence in your answer when I ask you,
